Are you searching for “concrete contractors near me”? If so, Logan Concrete is the place to go for all of your flatwork concrete needs. Correctly finishing any new concrete installation is a talent that takes years to master. A newly installed concrete driveway, sidewalk or patio done professionally always has a crisp clean look with nice lines and the appropriate “finished surface”. Don’t trust your concrete needs to just any concrete contractor. Logan Concrete will do it right the first time. Which will add long term value to your property for years to come. We know how to install and finish concrete so that it can withstand our harsh Winters, wet Springs and hot Summers.

Basic concrete is a simple mix of rock, cement powder, sand and water. The combination of these 4 elements gives concrete unprecedented work-ability, versatility, durability and strength. Because of this it is no surprise that concrete is the most broadly used construction material in the world. So naturally, concrete is an important part of any durable structure. Whether that be your home, business or any other purpose that concrete can be used for, you want to make sure that it is installed properly from start to finish. It is the intent of Logan Concrete to ensure a stress free building project from start to finish.

The ratios of rock, sand, cement powder and water are a big factor to the strength of concrete. The amount of these ratios to be used are determined by where the concrete is being placed. It is up to the concrete contractor to tell the concrete supplier, or redi-mix plant, what type of concrete product is needed. Because if the wrong type of concrete is used in the incorrect place that can cause the concrete to deteriorate. Another important factor to finishing strong durable concrete is the amount of water used in the concrete. If too little water is used then the concrete may not properly “hydrate” ultimately making the concrete weaker than it could be. Another potential problem of not enough water can be that the surface of the concrete is not finished properly for the reason that it loses its “work-ability”.

On the other hand if too much water is used in concrete it can cause the cement powder to become too diluted in proportion to the other ingredients. This will cause the concrete to lose strength over time. A good concrete contractor such as Logan Concrete knows how to order and finish concrete correctly, ultimately protecting your bottom line and long term investment.

The importance of concrete being finished right is also very important. The surface of a driveway or other outdoor surface such as a sidewalk or patio is different than the surface that would be finished on a basement, garage floor or other interior concrete floor. An exterior concrete surface generally requires a textured surface where an interior surface generally requires a smooth surface finish. The smooth finish of an interior floor looks polished and “clean” because a textured finish isn’t required.

In fact, it is very important that the correctly mixed concrete is ordered for an interior job opposed to an exterior job for the reason that the method of finishing the surface of the concrete requires a mix of concrete that is specifically designed for that purpose. As well as there is specifically designed concrete mixes that are required for exterior use so that it can endure the weather better and ultimately last longer.

Air is added to exterior concrete for the purpose that it will allow the concrete to expand and contract during the freeze thaw cycle that happens during winter. Without air being added to the concrete it would cause the concrete to be more susceptible to cracking and spawling (the top of the concrete peeling off). However if a concrete contractor tries to finish exterior concrete that does contain air incorrectly, it will cause problems with the concrete as it begins to cure.

Another factor in interior and exterior concrete is the amount of cement powder that is added to the mix. Because of the weather elements and weight of cars, boats and RVs, exterior concrete is strengthened by adding more cement to the product. However the concrete used for interior building needs and foundations and footings don’t require the extra strength so the amount of cement powder is reduced which also reduces the price so you don’t pay for what you don’t need.

An experienced concrete contractor such as Logan Concrete will always order the correct concrete for your job and make sure that it is finished correctly resulting in the strongest most durable concrete that you can have.

How much concrete will you need? One of the many things required of a concrete contractor is to order the correct amount of concrete needed for your specific job. Sometimes if the incorrect amount of concrete is ordered it can cause problems with the concrete. If too little is ordered the concrete that has already been poured out of the mixer truck will “cure” or harden before the extra concrete can be delivered. Having not enough concrete can happen to anyone and knowing how to deal with the situation so that it is not obvious to someone that looks at the spot where the new and old concrete meet and tell that they are not the same, takes skill and effort not only that, it also takes expert knowledge to be able to match the two different concrete sections so that it retains it strength.

If too much concrete is ordered for your job then the unused portion goes to waste, costing you more money than you needed to spend. Having just enough concrete is never just luck. It happens because the contractor knows how to measure the job correctly so that you are only paying for the product that you need. Logan Concrete knows how to order the correct amount of material so you aren’t paying for something that you will not use.

Sometimes concrete will need to be reinforced or strengthened through the use of rebar. This is done by strategically placing the rebar in the “grade” or the area where the concrete will be installed. Reinforced concrete can add more durability where large vehicles, boats, large equipment or RVs will be driven or parked. You can trust Logan Concrete to know when and when not reinforced concrete will be needed and if it is you can rest assured that the concrete will be installed correctly.

It is very important that the ground or “grade” that the concrete will be installed on is prepared correctly. Concrete should never be installed directly on dirt. This will cause the concrete to cure poorly and also the ground may settle leaving the concrete uneven and prone to cracking. Because gravel is widely available and relatively inexpensive it is the most popular product used in the sub grade below the concrete. Usually the grade should also be compacted so that the concrete won’t settle and be prone to cracking or sinking over time.
